Head of School Kathy Mahar with students

Welcome!

Welcome to St. Martin’s-in-the Field Episcopal School, where we help our students grow in Confidence, Compassion, and Character. Our student-centered educators work with young people in Preschool through 8th Grade to develop learners, leaders, and friends. We are intentional about the size of our school community because it allows us to know all of our students. Programs and activities are developed to foster social interaction and respect among students in all grades, promoting the development of self-awareness and confidence.

Teachers provide rigorous academic courses of study that spark curiosity. Our staff enjoy the flexibility of a teaching environment that is not governed by a predetermined scope and sequence of learning. Our smaller class sizes enable teachers to work with students to accommodate varied learning styles. Across grades, students participate in hands-on and experiential learning such as oyster restoration to engage learners in sustainability of our environment and cardboard boat races to practice design thinking and innovation. Our Lower School Global Fair provides students a chance to explore cultures and open young peoples’ worldviews to customs and traditions that enrich our lives.

Leadership roles and public speaking opportunities are offered on a larger scale through weekly chapel services and all-school assemblies, and on a smaller scale in class presentations beginning as early as Preschool Show and Tell. Our Episcopal identity is reinforced through social justice outreach to the community and beyond. Middle School students can choose to join one of St. Martin’s interscholastic sports teams where they continue to learn the invaluable lessons of teamwork, winning with humility and losing with grace. Art and music are plentiful throughout the grades, including concert performances, a school musical, variety show, and visual art show.

We hope your website visit becomes a campus visit where you can see and feel the welcoming and caring community that is St. Martin’s Episcopal School.

Sincerely,

Kathleen K. Mahar
